To kick off my newly created blog I’ll write about my relationship with animation, which hasn’t always steered my way through life but has certainly brought me to were I am now, living and taking my post-grad studies in Vancouver.

I’ve always had a passion for fantasy, the possibility of creating a whole new world unbound by the laws and rules of reality. As most people my age, I grew up watching all those crazy cartoons that the 80s and 90s bestowed on us, such as Pink and the Brain — my favorite from that time — or even the plethora of Anime that slowly took over most cartoon channels.

But it wasn’t until in the late 2000s that my passion truly emerged. I remember being a high school senior when I watched Wall-e in the theaters for the first time. This may sound corny, but boy, did that movie move me! I was stunned by the way Pixar was able to convey such an important message through an incredibly beautiful visual storytelling, given that there are not many spoken words throughout the picture.

At that time — and here is why animation hasn’t always been my first choice for work — I was actually applying for an engineering school, maybe influenced by friends and hoping to follow my father’s footsteps. It didn’t take too long before I abandoned engineering and found my way back to the wonderful world of cartoons, this time to stay.

Since then I’ve had the opportunity to work in amazing projects such as Papaya Bull, Solar Opposites and Rick and Morty, and I have high hopes for my future in the industry.
